Barbican
London

The Barbican in the City of London is not only the largest multi-arts performing centre and conference venue in Europe. It also is a residential estate with over 2000 flats. Built during the 60s and 70s and completed in 1982, the entire complex is regarded as a prominent example of brutalist architecture and is now listed as Grade two.
For a client harryclarkinterior gave one of the apartments a new look to reflect the essence and the spirit of the building period.

harry clark chose designs of the 60s and 70s, which correspond best with the ambience of the brutalist architecture: a black leather couch, a veneered coffee table with chrome base. The other chairs, ceiling lights and dining room set are also from the same period of the 60s and 70s. Thus, with a stylistically confident eye for quality and arrangement, a slightly tired looking apartment was transformed into an authentic period space. With discreet irony it reminds us of the time when lapels were broad, colours were bright and lights were made of smoked glass – “Saturday Night Fever” with a twinkle in the eye amongst the busy centre of London.
